Looking to elevate your instant ramen? Try this Kujirai-style ramen, a popular method from Japan that transforms spicy ramen into a rich, savory dish with creamy egg, melty cheese and fragrant green onions. It’s simple, comforting, and packed with umami—perfect for when you want something special with minimal effort.
Ingredients (Serves 1)
- 1 pack of spicy instant ramen
- 1 egg
- 2 stalks green onion
- A small handful of shredded seaweed (gim)
- 1 slice of cheese
- 2 cups (360ml) water
Instructions
1. Prepare the Toppings
Chop the green onion and slice the seaweed into thin, long strips using scissors.
2. Cook the Ramen
In a pot, pour 2 cups (360ml) of water and add only half of the soup base.
Bring it to a boil, then add the noodles and dried vegetable packet. Simmer until the broth reduces by half.
3. Add Egg and Green Onion
Once the noodles are nearly cooked and the broth is thickened, crack an egg into the center and sprinkle the green onion on top.
Cover the pot with a lid and simmer over low heat for about 1 minute, until the egg is soft-boiled.
4. Finish with Cheese and Seaweed
Turn off the heat, place a slice of cheese on top, and add shredded seaweed. Let the cheese melt gently over the hot noodles. Serve immediately!
