I enjoy watching the Korean TV show Pyeon Restaurant (편스토랑), where celebrity contestants create new meal ideas. When a winning dish gets released as a product, I often try it out. This time, I picked up the Perilla Sundaeguk with Chili Oil, the champion of their “Gukbap” (rice soup) episode. It promised a comforting bowl of soup with bold flavors—and it delivered.

Everything comes neatly packaged, and the portions are generous enough for two.

What’s Inside the Kit

How I Cooked It

1. I poured the two packs of broth into a pot with about 100ml of water and brought it to a boil.

3. Once the broth started boiling, I added the sundae, sliced meat, green onion, perilla leaves, and the sauce. I let it simmer for 3 more minutes.

My Thoughts

I really enjoyed this meal. The meat and sundae were flavorful, and the broth had a rich, spicy depth. It felt like something you'd get from a traditional gukbap restaurant.

That said, the broth tasted a bit salty to me mid-way through cooking, so I added another 150ml of water. I also ended up using all of the chili oil—I like it spicy. Once adjusted to my taste, it was a satisfying and hearty meal.

I used to rely on delivery for gukbap, but this kit has changed my mind. It’s nice to have an option I can cook quickly at home without sacrificing flavor.
