Before catching the KTX, I was looking for a quick but satisfying meal and came across Hyundaeok, located on the west side of Gwangmyeong Station. This spot is originally from Jeonju and is well-known for its signature dish: bean sprout soup with rice (kongnamul gukbap).
What makes it interesting is that they serve four different styles of kongnamul gukbap.
- Jeonju Nam-bu Market style
- Clear soup style
- Traditional direct-fire style
- Spicy soup style
I ordered the Traditional Direct-Fire style(전통직화식), because I was craving something steaming hot. It came out bubbling vigorously, and they even provided a small side bowl so I could ladle portions out without burning my mouth.
The side dishes were simple but well-matched: cubed radish kimchi (kkakdugi), napa cabbage kimchi, pickled radish, seasoned squid, and roasted seaweed. Perfect companions for the hearty soup.

The highlight? The raw egg dropped into the boiling broth. Once I stirred it with my spoon, it cooked instantly, giving the soup an even richer, more savory flavor. I love deep, bold broths, and this one hit the spot perfectly. If you prefer a lighter taste, I’d recommend trying the Jeonju Nam-bu Market style(전주남부시장식) or the Clear Soup style(맑은탕식) instead.
Overall, Hyundaeok is a great place to enjoy a comforting, filling meal before boarding the train. Definitely worth stopping by if you’re at Gwangmyeong Station!
