Today I tried something a little different. I’ve always enjoyed the classic Samanco with rice cake, but this time I picked up the Walnut Cookie Samanco.
At first glance, the shape is exactly the same – that familiar fish-shaped wafer shell we all know. But once I cut it open, the difference became clear. Instead of the usual vanilla ice cream, this version comes filled with walnut ice cream, and where there’s normally a layer of chewy rice cake, you’ll now find crunchy walnut pieces mixed with sweet red bean syrup.
The flavor was surprisingly satisfying. The walnut ice cream has a nutty, roasted taste that balances really well with the sweetness of the red bean. And those walnut bits add a nice crunchy texture that makes every bite more interesting.
I thought it would just taste like the regular version with a small twist, but the walnut makes it feel like a whole new experience. No wonder it’s called “Walnut Cookie Samanco” rather than just a walnut-flavored Samanco – The flavor remind me of traditional Korean walnut pastries, which are filled with sweet red bean paste and walnut pieces.
If you’re a fan of Korean ice cream or just love unique dessert combinations, I definitely recommend giving this one a try. It’s creamy, nutty, sweet, and crunchy – all in one bite.
