Looking for a creative way to use frozen dumplings? This tomato dumpling gratin is quick, cheesy, and incredibly satisfying. Golden pan-fried dumplings are topped with a spicy tomato sauce and melty mozzarella—proof that frozen dumplings can become something special with just a few extra steps.
Ingredients (Serves 1)
- 1/2 tomato
- 4 frozen dumplings (preferably king-size or Korean wang gyoja)
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (about 50g)
- 3 tbsp tomato sauce
- 1 tbsp hot sauce (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
- 2 tbsp cooking oil
- Parsley flakes for garnish
Instructions
1. Prepare the Tomato
Roughly chop 1/2 a tomato.
2. Make the Sauce
In a small bowl, mix the chopped tomato with 3 tbsp tomato sauce, 1 tbsp hot sauce, and 1/4 tsp black pepper. Reduce or skip the hot sauce if you prefer a milder flavor.
3. Pan-Fry the Dumplings
Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a pan over medium heat. Cook the dumplings until golden brown on all sides.
4. Assemble in a Gratin Dish
Spread the tomato sauce at the bottom of an oven-safe dish. Place the fried dumplings on top.
5. Top with Cheese & Microwave
Generously sprinkle shredded mozzarella over the dumplings. Microwave for about 3 minutes and 30 seconds, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
6. Finish with Garnish
Sprinkle with parsley flakes and serve immediately.
Tips
- Use store-bought or homemade dumplings—any kind works!
- Want more crisp? Use an air fryer instead of a microwave.
- Add chopped onions or olives to the sauce for extra flavor.
